HELP -
for a basic search just enter key word(s) in the top panel on
the left and click 'Submit Search'. The results are seen in
the purple Records Table below. Move around the searched records
using the green & yellow control bar, or select from records
in the lowest yellow panel. To refine your search, see below.
There are 4 panels to this search engine
- In the top panel you can enter words to Search
for and select how these are applied
|
- The purple Record Table lists details
and allows selection of fields to search
|
- A central yellow-green navigation bar
allows movement through the selected records
|
- The lowest box contains a long list of Organisations
matching the search
|
You can refine your search by selecting various
controls, which stay on when the results are displayed, and
can be re-adjusted for a new refined search. It is necessary
to click 'Submit Search' or press return to activate the new
settings.
Use of search words can be controlled by selecting
All, Any or Exact.
All looks at your individual words (separated by spaces)
and seeks a record containing all these words.
Any also looks for these words, but they do not all
have to be present in the record, just any of them will do.
Exact looks for a match to all the characters you put
in.
The match to the words is flexible in that they may form part
of a larger word. So 'sport' will find entries with 'sport'
or 'sports' or 'sportshall' in, but also with 'transport'.
Records can be located under different headings by selecting
a search Category on the left of the Record
Table. Normally the search is done in the 'Organisation Names'
list. Alternatively or additionally you can select an Area
of Work category from the drop-down selection list
on the right of the top panel. Normally the search is made in
all areas of work. A restricting to the main area of work of
an organisation can be made by unchecking the box that allows
a match for subsidiary areas of work.
Above this selector is a Disclosure Password
entry box - without the password you will only see entries from
organisations who have not ticked the non-disclosure box in
the directory entry application form.
The green & yellow record Navigation Bar
varies according to the options it can make available to
you. Generally it lets you move to the next and previous
records, or to the very first and last. If your search has
produced over 40 records, then the NEXT 40 and
BACK 40 controls will appear, allowing you to move
40 records in either direction, as displayed in the box
beneath as a list of matching Organisations.
Names of Organisations listed in this lowest
box can be selected in order to move directly to a given record.
