Developments at High Peak CVS

New Staff at High Peak CVS

We are pleased to welcome four new team members to High Peak CVS. Nigel Caldwell takes on the job of Development Programme Manager, with responsibilities for the High Peak CVS development work, covering Community Voices, Sustain, ProHlep and Arts Development. Nigel is familiar to all at the CVS, having worked in the building for the past 3 years leading the 'Sounds Good' advocacy project.

Richard Johnson is the new Arts Development Officer. Richard is an artist, who has set up his own creative business in the past, initiated a new community festival in his village and previously worked as a Festivals ADO for Barnsley Council.

Mark Davies will be the Mobile IT Tutor. He recently had a similar role with Trafford Borough Council and has worked for Halton Voluntary Action as a Community IT and Training Officer. Mark is also a web designer.

Andrew Reid has been appointed as a Web Development and Information Officer. Andrew has over 5 years experinece in commercial web design and has recently completed a degree in Live and Visual Media.

Earlier in 2005 we were joined by Ingrid Chambers, working for the Small Group Project, and Jim Owen as the our ICT Development Worker. Jim works with voluntary and community sector organisations in Derbyshire to identify their ICT needs and to help them develop, formulate and implement strategy and action plans to make more effective use of IT in delivery of their mission.

The High Peak Small Grants Fund

The High Peak Small Grants Fund has been established by High Peak Borough Council and High Peak CVS (Small Group Project) to support the development of new and existing small voluntary and community groups in the High Peak. Consideration will be given particularly to those groups involving people who are marginalised, disadvantaged or rurally isolated, or for organisations providing services for such people.

Small groups from the High Peak can apply for grants between £50 - £300. See our Funding page for more details.

ProHelp Annual event

Over the past nine months community groups throughout the area have benefited from free professional services through High Peak and Derbyshire Dales Rural ProHelp scheme to the tune of £33,000.

ProHelp Event

Sixty-five invited guests from community groups and businesses joined ProHelp members recently at the first annual High Peak and Derbyshire Dales ProHelp event held at Chatsworth, sponsored by LaFarge Cement.

Considering the Future: Gamesley Community Café
A Feasibility Study

High Peak CVS have recently been carrying out consultancy work for the Jericho Project in Gamesley on the future of the community café.

The report has background information on the Community Cafe and Gamesley area; details of consultation with the local community and stakeholders; an analysis of the business and market ; examples of best practice; suggested options for change; and conclusion and recommendations.
